Miami MIA: What to Do on a Layover

Getting from the airport

MIA to city center: 45 minutes by metro (Metrorail Green Line). Fare is $3. Trains run every 15 minutes. Service runs 05:00 to 00:00. Skip the taxi unless your connection is under 5 hours.

What to do in Miami

The stops worth making: South Beach Art Deco, Wynwood Walls street art, Little Havana & Cuban food, Art Basel. Rated above 4.4: Bayside Marketplace (4.5), Wynwood Walls (4.7), Vizcaya Museum & Gardens (4.7), Bayfront Park (4.7), Phillip & Patricia Frost Museum of Science (4.4). You do not need the full tourist circuit. Pick two and commit.

How long do you need

The minimum useful layover is 4 hours. That gives you 45 minutes in each direction plus about 60 minutes on the ground. Up to 24 hours is a proper overnight.
