Tel Aviv TLV: What to Do on a Layover

Florentin market in 4 hours: falafel, hummus from the vat, Israeli salad with everything. TLV is worth leaving the terminal.

Getting from the airport

TLV to city center: 66 minutes by bus (מסוף שוהם-שוהם<->ת. רכבת תל אביב - סבידור/חנה וסע-תל אביב יפו-19). Trains run every 46 minutes. Service runs 06:00 to 22:00. Skip the taxi unless your connection is under 5 hours.

What to do in Tel Aviv

The stops worth making: Tel Aviv beach, Jaffa Old City, Carmel Market, Hummus tour. Rated above 4.4: Tel Aviv Museum of Art (4.5), Habima Theatre (4.5), Levinski Market (4.4), Teder.fm (4.4), Park HaMesila (4.7). You do not need the full tourist circuit. Pick two and commit.

Tel Aviv is visa-free for US passports. No application, no fee. The border process at TLV is standard — budget 30 minutes.

How long do you need

The minimum useful layover is 4 hours. That gives you 66 minutes in each direction plus about 18 minutes on the ground. Up to 48 hours is a proper overnight.

TLV has 8 lounges. For short connections under 4 hours, the terminal is the destination — food options, showers, and enough space to reset before the next leg.
